Haul and Sightings at The BodyShop sale

I have not been to a Bodyshop sale for quite a while, mainly because i am more than often well stocked with my daily essentials (yes, i do get panic attack if i am down to my very last bottle of favourite bodywash.... haha. ) and partly due to my curiosity nature, i tend to stray sometimes to try out potential HG stuffs. And so, this can be considered as a once-in-a-blue-moon sort of hauling from the Bodyshop's warehouse sale.

Got to know about this sale through SMS, since the location of the sale is near my workplace.... i gather it deserved to be checkout by me. : ).

I did not get any makeup item this time, its all bodywash and the bath lily (which is a staple for me). Will come up with a review of the stuffs soon i hope.

Sightings of stuffs:

1.Accessories such as makeup pouches, clutches, nail buffers, nail separators, bath lilies and brushes for babies.

2.Skincare: Seaweed series, Vitamin C series, Tea Tree series, Vitamin E series, Moisture White Shiso series, Nutriganic series and a few items from the Natrulift series (mainly mini sized ones).

3.Home Fragrance: some home fragrance oil, 1 reed diffuser and 2 or 3 room sprays.

4.Hair care: selected Rainforest haircare series, Ice Blue shampoo, Banana conditioner and Grapeseed glossing serum.

5.Body care: tons of bodybutter, jumbo sized bodywash in 750ml, earth lovers series, Christmas series (the ginger, cranberry and vanilla range), scrubs and body lotions.

6.Makeup: 2 shimmer cubes (eyecolours), 1 shimmer wave (more bronzy kind of colour tone), Honey Bronze Bronzing powder, Brow definer, mascara, liquid eyeliner, single eye colours, lightening touch concealer, some liquid foundation (only 1 or 2 shades), flawless skin protecting foundation, moisture white shiso perfecting foundation (and case too separately) as well as the Moisture White Shiso BB cream, lip and cheek stain, some hi-shine lip treatment gloss (mini ones) and some lipbalms in selected colours.

7. Fragrances: 3 for men and a selected few for ladies.

8.Some gift sets and boxes.

9.Lots of travel sized toiletries available (from bodyscrub to bodybutter, showergels, bodyscrubs and facial wash plus creams).

Personally, i think its quite well stocked for trial sized products and if you do count bodybutters and scrubs as your essentials, it will be a fruitful trip for you. You will be disappointed if you are going there to stocked up on your makeup and fragrance essentials, as i do find their range of makeup for the sale is considerably little compared to the ones i have been to.

All in all, its quite worth the trip if you have time to spare, but do be careful about the expiry or manufacturing date of the products, some are maufactured in 2010 while there are quite a few manufactured just this year.

The sale is currently still on till 3rd of August 2012.

Review: The Body SHop Chocomania Shower Cream

I love chocolate, so much so that i can eat it almost everyday if my waistline ever stops expanding. : )

Sometimes the mere thought of it makes me happy, and of course not forgetting the monthly craving for it (you girls know why. ; ) ).

 Much as i can't live without it (yes! Chocolate addict here), to bathe in it or rather something that smells totally like it is a different matter all together.

I happen to come across Chocomania Shower Cream as part of a GWP from The Body Shop, it is something that i am keen to try as it deviates from the usual floral, fruity or musky churn ups that one usually see from The Body Shop. Receiving as part of the GWP naturally spiced up the purchase i made then.

The Chocomania Shower Cream by The Body Shop has to be the weirdest thing in my stash. Packaged in the typical Body Shop shower bottle, it is nothing out of the normal really, however the creamy glistering brown molten liquid that the bottle house looks like its good enough to drink (No, i am NOT that crazy yet).

The rich chocolate brown seems like a good nail color (which i wonder if it will ever work on the nails).

When i lifted up the cap in the bath room, i was caught by surprise by the strong chocolate scent, a tad too strong i would say. Was hesitant to pour it on the bath lily as i don't want to wake up in the middle of the night bitten by ants drawn to the confectionary scent.

Of course, curiosity caught up with me and yes i bathe in it. True enough, my mother who was in the kitchen could catch the scent of the the shower cream and asked what i am doing in the bathroom (???).

Personally, i find it more moisturising than the usual shower gels from The Body Shop, while the scent is strong straight from the bottle, it subsided relatively fast when i am out of the bathroom. It rinses fairly easily too which i like.

Interestingly, i found 2 ants on my arms the next morning when i woke up...... 

Would probably buy it if i were on a No-chocolate diet......

Review: The Bodyshop Bronzing Powder

I was never the kind of gal that is totally into bronzer... for one thing, i sure am tan enough and honestly i really do not need a product to make me look darker than i really am now.

So, this purchase was really unplanned for and i started to think that i might need a bronzer afterall, especially after a friendly Bodyshop SA eagerly offered to try it on me (i was just there to pick up 1 item, yet i end up with 3 home,.....darn!)

In terms of packaging, i would say this bronzer has a sleeker compact compared to Bodyshop's usual style of packaging for bronzers and highlighters. It is much slimmer and there is a mirror inside the compact which is useful (however one just can't help but feel that the packaging looks a wee outdated). I was expecting something that is more sunny and youthful.

The honeycomb-like surface was indeed rather interesting to look at and was adapt as honey, one of the ingredients is the common theme that ties up the entire Honey Bronze collection. It is not those sprayovers whereby a single swipe or two sweeps it away, i can see that the honeycomb is going to stay there for at least a week of swiping or more depending on your usage.

What i like about the bronzer powder is that it doesn't make me a shade or two darker, rather it gives my tan skin a healthy glow like i am just back from a short getaway to Bali or Sentosa. Don't be fooled by the light swatches, the bronzer is actually quite pigmented so i would suggest subtle is best. You wouldn't want to look like you suffered from sunburnt.

As the powder is matt, which means you have more options to play around with, like what i did was to apply Bodyshop's Bake-to-last Bronzer in #02 Warm Glow lightly over it and i do like the effect of it. I tend to avoid very shimmery stuffs whenever i can. So far, i am still trying ways to make this work for me and yes, i picked up not just 1 bronzer this time but 2....

Texture-wise, it is soft and smooth and a swirl of my brush actually picked up a decent amount of powder, so be careful of excessive powder falling off the compact.

I do admit that a bronzer is not something that i would reach out for often, unlike blusher. However, it is a good alternative to go to when you want to have a healthy subtle summer glow.

Not too bad as a my first bronzer i must say and i do see myself reaching for it at times.

Review: The Bodyshop Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow and Body Mist

It always happen whenever i have too much things on my mind, tossing and turning in the bed for hours counting countless number of sheep and a feeble attempt to self-hypnotize... whichever methods i have used, insomnia seems to have an affinity with me just when i need to have sufficient sleep or rest for the next day.

On my previous visit to the Bodyshop for Body Treatment, i causally mentioned that i have trouble entering slumber land at night to my therapist (her massage techniques are so good that i found myself drifting off moments her magic works on me). She gave me a light blue and brown weird looking sachet which according to her should be able to help me relax and get enough rest.

I took her words for it half-believing what she said as i was quite adamant that my occasional cases of insomnia is incurable. Well, i spray the "Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow Body Mist" on both my pillow and my body and lie quietly on the bed.

The Body mist has a Zen or Spa-like scent which i smell camomile, something citrusy or zesty (maybe its the Jujube date, i have not smell one before) and a little mandarin orange like even (according to the list of ingredients, it contains camomile, jujube date, geranium, juniper and patchouli essential oils). This concoction does not put me to sleep immediately, rather it calms my mind and i was able to relax more and then gradually drift to sleep sooner than usual especially when i was suffering from Bronchitis earlier from late Jan to Feb (still trying to recover now).

I kept the bottle at my bedside and i do find myself reaching out for it quite often (which is not good as it could only mean that my insomnia might be getting more frequent) or it could be that i am drawn to the scent of it somehow.

No matter what, i say it Deep Sleep managed to perform its intended function rather successfully.

Will i get another bottle when this runs out?

Probably, i suppose i will need it to relieve my insomnia every now and then.

What can i say?

The show gels are 50% off (it's a 1 for 1), except the Jolly Orange soap which is 40% off, these are seasonal and to miss them, i would need to wait till November 2011, they are soap-free and the scents make me happy.

And so, i came home with an armful of Jolly Orange, Cranberry Joy and Spiced Vanilla shower gels, i was planning to lug more home especially Spiced Vanilla and Cranberry Joy, but they were sold out like hotcakes at the various branches of the Bodyshop near my workplace.

I would say, snag a few if you can and indulge in them. Enjoy!

Review: The Body Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo and Conditioner

I just received an email from The Bodyshop regarding the upcoming Eco-conscious Rainforest Hair Care range a few days ago, and i was quite keen on sampling the product after having read descriptions of the range on the email.

"Highly Biodegradable. No Silicones. No Sulphates. No Parabens. No Colourants."

This Eco-conscious range is a first for Bodyshop and that sounds really good and natural, hair care that sounds right up my alley, thus i went to the nearest Bodyshop store the very next day to obtain a sample of it.

There are a total of 4 lines catering for all hair types, i guess there is something for everybody.

As for me, i received a satchet (8ml each for both Shampoo and conditioner) from the Rainforest Shine range which is meant for normal to dry hair type. I don't really know if different people will get to receive different samples from different range, maybe only the Rainforest shine satchet samples will be given out (perhaps most of us have hair types that falls under that category and so the standardised sample given).

Packaging-wise, as i do not have the final commercial product in my hands, based on the picture in the promotion poster, it seems to resemble the long-ish bottle from the Well-Being range.

Personally, i prefer shampoo that comes with pump- easier to handle, no more slip of the hand.

Now, scent-wise the Rainforest Shine Shampoo is one of my favourite, it is subtle, perhaps event a hint of sweetness and grass. It smells absolutely divine! The conditioner's scent is a toned down version of the shampoo. Very natural spa-like. It doesn't linger around much, so its both good and bad, depends on how you see it.

The texture of the shampoo is a little more watery that the others that i have used, perhaps its due to the formula and i do notice that it doesn't lather as easily as others, the reason could be due to the "No Sulphates" rule. That didn't bother me abit, just that i will be finishing a bottle of shampoo at a faster rate. The consistency of the conditoner on the other hand is like those of others in the market, its a milky white.

After 1 usage (i figure 1 satchet is just sufficient for 1 usage- that's why its called sampling), personally i felt that the shampoo is one of the gentler version among the existing shampoo range, such as the Nettle Oil Balancing Shampoo, Olive Glossing Shampoo and the Ice Blue Shampoo that i have used in the past. It's quite mild.

The conditioner on the other hand, doesn't felt like the others that i have used in the past, my hair is not so "slippery" and "silky" (maybe due to the absence of silicones), having said that doesn't mean the quality of the conditioner is not there. I like the way that my hair smoothens in a more natural way that i know isn't due to the excessive chemicals contained in the conditioner.

All in all, i would say this is a product range that i will definitely be eagerly waiting for its launch.

I need to test drive it for a longer period of time, to give a truer and fairer review of it, but as of now, personally i like it as a whole.

So, i will be waiting for its lauch on 30th of August 2010 in Singapore!

Review: The Body Shop- Ice Blue Shampoo

Originally created in the 80s, this classic was revived and made a come back by the good people of Body Shop together with many popular classics that they discontinued back then.

This unusual bottle of blue shampoo brings back memories of my teenage years...I was lamenting for the loss of it when they decided to discountine this in the 90s.... just when i have began to fall in love with it...

So naturally, i am delightfully surprised when it was brought back though for a limited time only.

I am currently halfway through my new bottle of Ice Blue. I would say the invigorating minty feeling on the scalp during washing and after washing remains very much the same except that the icy coolness sort of toned down in this version. I still recalled how i actually felt years ago when i first came in contact with Ice Blue, i shivered at the strong minty coolness on my scalp, more than enough to wake me up for morning classes. This time round, the concoction is a tad milder in my humble opinion.

Nevertheless, I like the fact that the shampoo is able to lather properly, it thoroughly cleansed my hair and best of all the faint minty smell it leaves on my hair. Unfortunately, the Ice Blue conditioner was not brought back together with the shampoo.. This is a pity, the pair would have worked flawlessly together.

The Body shop's Ice Blue Shampoo has been compared to LUSH's Ice Blue Shampoo many a time. Both sport similar packaging, TBS's version has a deeper hue of ultramarine blue to it and it has a black and green label, while LUSH's version was a light shade of teal blue with a speck of brightness to it and it has a white label. I would love to do a comparison between the 2, but LUSH pulled out of Singapore many years ago, so it would mean that i will need to ask my friend in US to help me get hold of it. Meanwhile, hopefully the good people of TBS decides to keep Ice Blue for good.

The question is, would i buy it again?

Why, yes!

But please bring back the Conditioner too and make both available in larger size.

Interesting fact: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf juice is actually Aloe Vera juice. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can soothe irritated skin.
